Most lawyers know by now that they are going to need to implement an effective digital strategy if they're going to survive and thrive in their practice over the next few years.

But although they know the need for an effective strategy – many don't get around to implementing one.

Why Is That?

It would be easy to suggest that lawyers are burying their heads the sand, but I think that's neither fair nor accurate.

I think the reason is this: we just need a bit of help.

The fact is that learning to master digital marketing and content marketing takes work, and lawyers are busy people.

So How do we Prioritize Digital Marketing in our Legal Practice?

It depends where you're starting.

Most lawyers who end up mastering their digital marketing go along this kind of journey:

  1. Realising that it's important;
  2. Prioritizing it in their practice;
  3. Learning about what's required;
  4. Deciding what to implement in their practice, and how to implement it;
  5. Implementing.

Most lawyers get stuck somewhere around point 3 – learning what's required.

There's a good reason for that: there's a lot of learning to be done.

Between website design, content marketing strategy, digital channels and social media – there's a lot that we don't know and have never had to know before. Certainly we didn't learn it at Law School.

Bring on… the “Too Hard” Basket

When I get stuck on something, there's this handy place I sometimes put it – it's the too hard basket.

That's where most lawyers' digital marketing efforts get placed somewhere along the way.

Many lawyers know they need to “get around” to something in the digital space but haven't decided what or how they are going to do it.

I Help you Get Out of the Too Hard Basket

Because I'm a lawyer too, I know the kinds of concerns you have. I know what you would like to accomplish, and I know you've got a professional service to provide.

I also know that your digital marketing efforts have to help you become known, liked and trusted by your chosen clients and prospects.

In developing my first site, Tips for Lawyers, I've also done the hard yards learning about:

  • building websites
  • content marketing
  • digital marketing
  • social media
  • copywriting
  • inbound and outbound marketing

Who am I?

My name is Chris Hargreaves.

By profession I am a lawyer with more than 15 years experience in litigation.

By design, however, I am a website developer, mentor, a writer, and a speaker.

I love learning, and I love teaching.

That's why it's so frustrating for me to see so many professionals out there who, in 2, 3, 5 or 10 years are going to be out of business – because they haven't adapted to the needs of a digital client, and they aren't seeing the results of a great digital strategy.

So – don't let that be you.

Let's go.
